The magnificent Presentation Sister's Convent was opened in 1899 and was the second convent for Launceston's Church of Apostles. The original, smaller convent still stands next to the church and can be viewed from the hotel. The convent housed many sisters and nuns who taught at the Catholic school next door, now just a junior school but for the first 100 years of its life, a junior and senior school. Operations of the convent only ceased in 2003, at which time the property became redundant for the Church and was placed on the market. A local couple, Mr and Mr Bowman, spotted the potential of the building as a hotel and secured the property at auction in 2003. They quickly set about renovating and restoring the property to transform its interior into the beautiful, luxurious Auldington Hotel. Many of its original period features, including its grand facade and main staircase, were fully restored. The landscaped gardens were constructed around the original roses bushes that had been faithfully tendered by the nuns, some of which are verified to be many decades old and still offering their lovely fragrant flowers today.

Housed in a 19th century convent, Auldington offers peaceful boutique accommodation with high ceilings and historic design elements. It is a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

Offering a pleasant contrast, Auldington’s air-conditioned rooms feature modern interiors, a DVD player and private bathrooms. Select rooms boast views of the city.

Facilities include an elevator, landscaped gardens and guest lounge. Guests have access to a DVD library and tour booking services.
