We try to spend five full days in San Pedro annually.
We try to spend five full days in San Pedro annually. For the first three trips, we rented a Golf Cart to see the far ends of the island. Now, we choose to stay downtown and walk to everything. SP is very safe, but don't leave anything in your cart. Meals can be pricy if you eat "non-local" foods - in other words, by eating at the smaller, less advertised venues, delicious, local food is very cheap! You can have a large meal for two at Neri's Tacos for under $10 US!
El Fagon has the best ceviche we've ever had. It's a local restaurant with fairly low prices but get there before 6:30 PM unless you have reservations. The picture is of a Michelada served with a frozen beer. One appetizer of ceviche is a meal, so don't over-order!
Red Ginger, Elvi's Kitchen, and Cool Beans have exceptional food and service but are non-local and expensive.
The Palapa Bar is NOT WORTH IT! Embarrassingly, we've made the mistake of eating there twice - never again! The service is rude and surly. The food is very expensive and below-average. The entertainment is not good.
We've stayed at Ramon's—excellent location, average food, no booze, but pricey; Xanadu, which is not very convenient and expensive; and Tradewinds Paradise Villas, which is reasonably priced and has an exceptional location. We liked Tradewinds Paradise Villas the best. It is within walking distance of everything downtown, has a beautiful pool with shade, and has outstanding management.

San Pedro is a beautiful place. I come here once a year.
San Pedro is a beautiful place. I come here once a year. The best thing about San Pedro is the locals. They make this beautiful place that much better. The food is absolutely amazing. When you think of food around the world Belize tends to not be on that list. IT SHOULD BE. The food is so amazing!

Roadside meals are affordable and delicious.
Roadside meals are affordable and delicious. Enjoy barbecued chicken, rice and beans, coleslaw! Had an amazing massage on the pier behind Xanadu(?) resort. Found a Brooklyn bagel place that was yummy! Get a place like Caribe Island #12 outside of town with privacy. Charter a boat and beach hop, snorkel, etc. Go cave tubing. Felt like our own private beach at our place that was heaven.

San Pedro was a busy little city on the island of Caye Ambergris. The beach featured restaurants, bars, hotels and resorts all along. There were many choices for restaurants, so we were able to try several different ones. Many of them featured fresh fish and seafood, barbecue, and tropical drinks. We mostly got around on foot--up and down the beach and along the town's streets, but rented a golf cart one day to go to Secret Beach a few miles away. Sidewalks are few, so you have to watch out for traffic, which is mostly golf carts, the favorite mode of transportation. The few vehicles were mostly mini-van taxis and a few pickups. We stayed in the central part of the town, so everything we needed was quite handy. Markets and bakeries were nearby. We had fresh papaya for breakfast nearly every morning! Next time we might stay in a little quieter part of town, say, at one of the beachfront resorts.

San Pedro is a bustling tourist town.
San Pedro is a bustling tourist town. The most common transportation on the streets is golf carts, many, many golf carts.
The Blue Water Grill was our favorite place to eat. We also enjoyed Lily's Treasure chest for a few meals.
It was great to stay here for a few nights for the dining and the activities - snorkeling excursions - but we are glad we also spent time on the mainland coast of Belize for a more laid back experience.
Perfect, cosy hotel to stay in San Pedro! Great central location, without the noise from all the golf carts. Everywhere I needed to go was within walking distance (airport, ferry, shops, restaurants, beach and dive shops). The owner was very accomodating and housekeeping was great. Loved hanging by the pool or chilling in my room (with the AC on) or on the rooftop. Extending my reservation with one extra night was very easy and quick.
Small quiet hotel, with lovely decoration and very nice garden, away from the busy main road trafic but not too far from down town restaurants and shops. We absolutely love our stay at Belize Budget suites. Very confortable and clean rooms. The personnel was very much helpfull and nice. We highly recommend this place in San Pedro. Renting a golf cart is a must to get around the island and is a kind of attraction by itself !
We had an exceptional time at Mata Rocks. One of the best features was the staff itself. Rarely have we witnessed such a genuinely friendly, funny and lovely staff. We hope the owners pay them well and know that they have there. The Room was the perfect size, nicely equipped and very clean. From the entrance, through the doors to the seaside the hotel looks inviting and full of flair.
Really enjoyed our stay here , the room was nice and clean and the staff are outstanding. They helped organise taxis , golf cart ,excursions and even laundry . Nothing was too much trouble for them .
We had a standard room so only glimpses of the ocean but was comfortable and clean . Great location across from restaurants/ bars and not far from the centre of San Pedro
This is a really nice property and a good location on the island of San Pedro. Only a 10-15 minute walk along the beach to main area of town The staff were excellent accommodating and very friendly. The rooms were very clean. The beds were a little old however, it was still comfortable. The food at the restaurant was really good and a really good price as well.
I loved everything about this place. You get alot of bang for your buck here. Right on the beach and walking distance to several restaurants and bars. The town of San Pedro is also close by yet the hotel was always quiet for sleep. Jake, Marta and Justin are wonderful and feel like family to me now. Just an awesome, clean, beautifully appointed boutique hotel!
The breakfast was different every morning, we once had Belizean meat pies. The staff was the best I've every had anywhere. The location is perfect. The ocean out front and the whole town of San Pedro walking distance from the hotel. The rooms were large and super clean. Reef adventures is out the front door. We ended up doing Three different boat excursions.
absolutely fantastic resort in San Pedro. Rooms were very clean, the view of the ocean was fantastic and the staff was extremely helpful in arranging trips and golf carts, and all the usual stuff. If you want to stay at a very nice resort without breaking the bank, this would be a great place to do so in San Pedro. Absolutely fantastic!
The little cabañas are immaculately clean, with a good decor. Breakfast is included and the circle of about 6 cabañas are right next to the coffee shop that provides breakfast. It’s in a quiet spot away from the main road and close to the water. And the place is away from the hustle of San Pedro’s downtown area.
Portofino is a lovely little resort a bit away from the main town on San Pedro. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The view out onto the beach was glorious, and the pool is also a lovely place to relax. The free breakfast was also plenty to keep us full - would highly recommend the banana muffins!
The space is absolutely perfect for a digital nomad, reliable Wi-Fi, great cooking area with everything you need, work station. Also, Lisa was extremely responsive and the caretaker Gordo was so kind and helpful! Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to spend an extended stay in San Pedro.
This was my first time staying here and it will be our place to stay every time we go to San Pedro. It was a great little apartment room, great location, far enough away from the middle of San Pedro so it was quiet but still close enough to walk and do what we wanted to do.
Great location, central to all the diving shops and restaurants. Staff are all very friendly. Bed is super comfortable and the room is big, safe and clean. Definitely recommend for a stay in San Pedro!
The manager of the hotel was amazing from prior to our trip all the way through. It’s really centrally located in San Pedro so a lot of things are a short walk & it’s easy to find from the ferry.
only one location is the best location hotel Coastal bay 2. when I travel San Pedro I always select this location. very clean and very reasonable price in the San Pedro town.
Location was out of the maelstrom of San Pedro, located in a residential neighborhood; peaceful. Nicely landscaped.
Staff/ownership were friendly and responsive.
This property is quiet, well managed, and clean, on a nice beach north of San Pedro. There are restaurants within walking or carting distance, and a great pier.
