FAQs about hotels in Sacramento

Still Glimmering Like Gold

Sacramento maintains a glimmer of the Gold Rush and, if there weren’t cars on the cobbled streets, when wandering Old Sacramento you almost feel like you’re back in those days. Like in classic Westerns, horses pull covered wagons past a wooden boardwalk linking covered shopfronts.

The blossoming Californian capital attracted more than one kind of pioneer though. The Big Four entrepeneurs devised the Central Pacific Railroad, as detailed in the State Railroad Museum. The Eagle Theatre was the state’s first, on a considerably smaller scale than the modern-day arts venues showcasing everything from opera to ballet.

A paddle steamer is moored on the nearby Sacramento River, and the American River Parkway lines the city’s other river, opposite the first settlement site. The founder created Sutter’s Fort, and the State Indian Museum documents the native people that lived there long before.

Despite such mass immigration, Sacramento is surprisingly well integrated, but with that glorious Californian sun, it’s easy to see why the locals are so laidback. Palm trees shade streets including Capitol Mall, connecting the State Capitol to Tower Bridge. The nearby Crocker Art Museum is the oldest museum in the western US, while historic figures are remembered in the California Hall of Fame.

Booking.com’s accommodation options include apartments near the convention centre, cheap motels and Sacramento Airport hotels.

Sacramento city is a sanctuary City so you can expect most hotels are full of refugees. Very few people in these hotels are actually paying customers, it's more like living or staying in a slum apartment building. I moved to four different hotels and it was the same in all of them. The homeless crisis is out of control. I've seen it on videos but I didn't realize that it was as bad as it was and it is everywhere. Customer service is no longer there because I think the people are burned out with all the problems they are having so I was treated rudely and disrespectfully and some people even like Uber drivers refused to talk to me. This is not a fun place to go. I don't plan on returning

A great stop to break up the drive from Tacoma WA to LA CA.

A great stop to break up the drive from Tacoma WA to LA CA. Good restaurants. Nice attractions. Good big city like infrastrure for shopping and commerce. Capital of California with its associated monuments and trappings of a big government. Not as crime ridden as Oakland but clearly suffering from common blights caused by the lack of consequences for property crimes and drug abuses. Law enforcement efforts were present only in selected areas. The town is walking friendly.

It's a sign of the times, but even though we were in the business district, we did not feel particularly comfortable. A group of questionable guys were gathered in front of the Seven Eleven down the street, and we saw one of them exchange a baggy of something with a buy in a car that pulled up next to them. Even Old Sacramento felt iffy; we were angrily confronted by a homeless man, demanding money (he didn't seem satisfied that we don't carry cash). The whole place didn't feel that safe.

I loved that the hotel was close to everything we visited, Old Sacramento, State Capitol building/park, restaurants and museums, and freeways. The room and facilities were very clean and friendly service. Also a pleasant surprise was that the Sacramento River was right behind the hotel and there was a gate that you could go out to see the River close up. I did need my key to get back in and I loved that added security. Easy for the guests but made difficult for everyone else to enter the facilities through that door.

This is a full-service convention hotel in the middle of downtown Sacramento. I was only here for 12-hours but from everything that I saw & experienced, it's a great hotel. Room was clean, quiet & comfortable. I went to the pool/hot tub and it too is nice for a convention-style hotel. When traveling for business you just want things to go quick, smooth and fast - they accomplished this with an efficient check-in - i was in my room in less than 5 minutes after arriving - perfect!

nothing. The man child working at the hotel gave my room away. I had a reservation for 2 weeks and stayed clearly that I’d be arriving between midnight and 1pm. He gave the room away at 11pm. When I called booking.com, the representative tried to get in touch with them, but their phone was not working. Then the rep tried to email the hotel, and their email was not working. Pretty sure this place is a scam or a drug den or something.

Staff was also super friendly and accommodating. A wonderfully different place to stay right in the heart of Old Sacramento. the superbly restored ship that is the hotel is a joy and deserves to be better known. The restaurant on board is good and the breakfast was particularly enjoyable. Other reviews speak of noise from the neighbourhood but we had a very peaceful stay.
